Church of San Lorenzo in Fauglia, Pisa


The Church of San Lorenzo cited by 1251 and enlarged in the 15th and 16th centuries, collapsed because of the terrible earthquake in 1846, and soon after it was rebuilt in a more central position.
The project of reconstruction was entrusted to architect livornese Arturo Conti.
The new building features a simple neo-Renaissance façade, punctuated by three blind arches including ports.
The Interior is divided into three naves; on the altar at the head of the South aisle is a relief in painted terracotta with the venerated image of the Madonna del Soccorso ". In the left aisle, is the altar of the crucifix, made of marble in the 18th century.
The chapel of the Rosary, is home to our Lady of the Rosary of the Pisan School of the 18th century. In the first Bay of the nave is the painting, 18th century, too, with San Lorenzo, attributed to the Pisan Luigi Secchi.
Of the old church, which was located near the cemetery, on the southern outskirts of the village, is the Bell Tower, which is is in a poor state of preservation.
